No Synthetic Fragrance

What Are Synthetic Fragrances?

A synthetic fragrance is usually a lab-created substance derived from petroleum or natural gas by-products. Fragrances can either be synthetic or from essential oils. Both can be detrimental to skin health if combined wrong, but artificial fragrances can be particularly damaging.

Why No Synthetic Fragrance in Skincare?

Synthetic fragrances in skincare products can irritate the skin and disrupt its natural oil balance in the long run. The dangerous thing is that often, skincare brands aren’t obliged to list if a fragrance is artificial. As a result, things like benzene derivatives, aldehydes, toluene, or phthalates often hide behind an ingredient simply called “fragrance” or “perfume”.

To avoid such traps, we recommend products with “fragrance-free” or “no synthetic fragrance” labels.

The Dangers of Synthetic Fragrances

In clean beauty skincare products, we avoid synthetic fragrances due to their many side effects, especially on sensitive skin:

  • They can cause redness, irritation, or rashes;
  • Often, synthetic fragrances contain benzene, phthalates, aldehydes, or toluene – some of them linked to cancers and other chronicle diseases;
  • Synthetic fragrances can be harsh for all skin types, especially for sensitive skin;
  • They can contribute to dermatitis and itchy skin;
