No Formaldehydes

What Is Formaldehyde?

Formaldehyde is a gas that’s naturally occurring and colorless but strong-odored. This chemical is a known fungicide, germicide, and disinfectant typically used in construction materials, household products, and, unfortunately, for preserving cosmetic products.

Why Formaldehyde-Free Skincare?

Although all of us are exposed to Formaldehyde to some extent, we know that formaldehyde fumes and skin absorption are a problem in the long run.

In the short term, Formaldehyde can cause allergies or skin irritation, but it might contribute to chronic diseases in the long run.

Firstly, it’s worth noting that the European Chemicals Agency forbids Formaldehyde in all cosmetic products, while the US FDA still doesn’t have it regulated. But, there’s more than enough evidence to stop using it in skincare products altogether.

The Dangers of Formaldehyde

The short-term effects of Formaldehyde are better understood than the long term ones, but here are all the precautions:

  • Skin irritations, allergies, and rashes;
  • Can cause cancers in chronic cases of prolonged exposure to fumes;
  • Formaldehyde is often linked to breathing troubles and asthma;
  • It’s most damaging when inhaled from nail polish, hairspray products, or any products that release fumes;
